Apps for Bird Watching

There are plenty of applications that you can use for finding bird watching resources and communities. Here is a list of my top 5 personal favorites:

1. Audubon Bird Guide. The app is free and serves as a mobile field guide. It makes things a lot easier for bird watching on-the-go and covers 810 species of birds.

2. Merlin Bird ID. This app is also free and is similar to Audubon Bird Guide. This app gives you access to over 400 species of birds and helps you ID birds based off of only five questions.

3. Birdsnap. Birdsnap is free and identifies bird species based off of the photos you upload into the application. This is great for photographers and beginner bird watchers.

4. eBird. eBird is great at supplying a mobile community for bird watchers. The application collects data from thousands of users and uses the data to track the appearances of species locally and globally.

5. Chirp! Bird Song USA. This app gives the user access to over 300 recordings of bird songs from around the country. It does cost $3.99 on the Apple AppStore.. The app also houses photos and quizzes that will make you a bird watching pro!
